Home Building
Warranty insurance or Home Owners Warranty provides protection
for consumers against a builder's breach of statutory warranty.
One misconception in the marketplace is that it protects the builder,
when in actual fact it was developed to insure home owners and consumers
against losses incurred through the death, disappearance or insolvency
of their builder during construction.
It's required for any residential building
work or kit home where the work requires a licence and the value
of the work is over $12,000.

A Workers
Compensation policy covers anyone employed by the builder
or tradespreson who is injured on the building site. It is
in your interest to make sure that employees of anyone on site are
covered by their employer for workers compensation. If these employers
are not insured you could be liable to pay the costs of any claim.
A builder or tradesperson who does not operate under a trade or
company name cannot usually take out insurance to cover themselves
and in some circumstances it may be found that these people
have actually become your employees under the Workers Compensation
Act 1987 .
